“You is kind. You is smart. You is important.” – From the movie, “The Help”
As I reflect on this past week – 8 days since my position was eliminated – I honestly have felt just as busy as if I was still working full-time. It has been a good reminder that a job does not define me. It does not change the core of who I am. The relationships I made were meaningful to me. I am reassured to know several of those I’ve connected with over this past year and 6 months felt the same way.
You never know who is watching you. So I want to say to those like myself who are searching for your next move: I see you. I empathize with you. I am proud of you. I believe in you.
Be thoughtful about your next choice of where you hang your hat for work. Some of the questions I am asking myself as I search:
1. Does it align with my personal mission?
2. Will it bring me the opportunity to lay groundwork for a foundation of learning and better understanding for myself and others?
3. Is it challenging in a way that I can better my skills?
4. Will I be able to perform to my full potential because the leadership trusts my decisions?
5. Can I work with others to highlight their strengths and level up their own development?
6. Does the work present problems that require creative solutioning?
There are many other questions and thoughts that will cross my mind as I continue this journey. Your questions may be different and that’s okay. Be mindful of what is important to you. What are your non-negotiables? Please know I’m cheering for you. And if I can be a sounding board, DM me. I’m happy to walk through the thought process or leverage my network to connect you with someone who can help.
Happy weekend, Everyone!
